The Fifth Force

Client: Catherine “Cat” Loubier (Canadian Diplomat)
Medium: Graphic Novel (Climate Communication / Youth Engagement)
Roles: Creative Director, Writer, Worldbuilder

  • Catherine “Cat” Loubier — a Canadian diplomat working in the United States — was involved in one of the largest Canada–U.S. renewable energy initiatives. She needed a creative, accessible way to reach younger audiences and inspire them to participate in the clean-energy movement. The goal was to communicate the real-world geopolitical stakes of renewable energy in a format that would inspire action rather than overwhelm with data.

  • Morgan collaborated closely with Cat to understand the environmental, political, and societal dimensions of the clean-energy transition. He then developed The Fifth Force, an original graphic novel designed to simplify complex global issues into an engaging, story-driven narrative. The graphic novel uses character-driven storytelling, accessible metaphor, and worldbuilding to highlight the importance of responsible energy transitions and their potential impact on the future of the planet.

    • Worked with Cat to understand the real-life implications, challenges, and geopolitical stakes of renewable energy transitions.

    • Wrote the full narrative for The Fifth Force, transforming climate urgency into a compelling, character-focused story.

    • Developed worldbuilding elements that framed clean-energy topics in imaginative but accurate ways.

    • Directed the thematic tone and visual storytelling strategy.

    • Collaborated with illustrators to align visuals with the narrative’s educational and emotional goals.

    • Ensured the final graphic novel was accessible, inspiring, and capable of reaching younger readers.

The Story

  • Earth is on the verge of extinction. We have limited crude oil and our primary fuel sources are negligible. The carbon clouds signal the end of our species. We have but a few options: leave the planet… or fix it.

We are the TFA, a special Canada-based agency that stumbled across a revolutionary discovery. The fifth Elemental force: Time.

We built a freaking time machine based on the new physical sciences, believing we can go back to the “inflection points” of this extinction level event and fix things.

The irony here is that the fuel we need to operate the invention, is the very fuel that led us to this juncture.

Even with the precautions in place we only have enough for a limited number of time jumps, 5 to be exact.
